Cambodian-Americans gather to honor the life of Mr. Ronald Wilson Reagan and to pay homage to the late former president of the United States . We remember him most during his presidency where his powerful foreign policies reached far and wide, even for a small Southeast Asian nation, Cambodian, reaped the benefit. It is not necessary to cite the details.
For many in our immigrant community, it is suffice to remember him fondly as our first president during the 1980s. And for many it was because of the policies of his administration that made it possible for us to emigrate to the United States , where we escaped the clutches of communism and government oppressions to enjoy the freedom and opportunities that many in the world can only dream of.
Today we humbly gather to pay our utmost respect to him the way of our tradition, the way we would as if for our own family. Today we pray to the Lord Buhdda for the lasting peace and harmony for the soul of Mr. Reagan, because to him we owe much gratitude.
Tahry Ros initiated his plan helped by Cambodian American Resource Agency, San Jose Cambodian Buddhist Society and active community members (including Silicon Valley Cambodian Businessmen) to host this important event on Sunday, June 20, 2004 at Watt Khmer San Jose.
