Mission
Statement
To preserve our Khmer culture especially
Buddhism for Khmer people who live in San Jose and the Bay Area.
The older folks can feel like home with all year round activities
and it's a place for them to worship or meet other fellow Khmers.
For the younger Khmers, it's a place where they can observe and
learn about Khmer culture. We observe most of special festivities
that are normally celebrated in Cambodia, such as Chuol Chnam
(New Year), Phium Ben, Kathin, etc.
Background
History (click here for details)
As there were no Cambodian Monks
in the San Jose area to preside at Buddhist ceremonies as required
by tradition, the elders invited the Monks from the Oakland, Modesto,
or Stockton temples. Even though they ran to some difficulties
because those temples do not have enough Monks to serve the community
needs. Sometimes, they have to invite Monks from other states,
which involves much time and schedule conflicts. Therefore, they
gathered together to find a solution. The word had spread through
out the Cambodian community.
